In every project you endeavor, invariably you will at some point begin to question what it is you’re doing. This is the moment when objectivity is lost, and burn out is imminent. It happens to writers, artists, and filmmakers alike.
The reality is, that pickup shots and re-shoots are a fairly common and routine aspect of film-making. Film-making can be very stressful and no matter how well you prepare, no one can think of everything.
While I’ve talked about Brian Pope and his excellent turn as our exasperated hero, I have to give props to our talented cast of “interrupters” whose improv and delivery continually kept me surprised and laughing.
This is when the puzzle making fun begins, as you assemble the film for the first time seeing how it transformed from what I wrote on the page, through it’s interpretation by the actors to actual footage.
After and exhausting and exhilarating weekend, The Specimen is in the can. (Or should I say cup?).
