The Specimen is an official selection for the 2012 Action on Film International (AOF) Film Festival. This puts it in competition in their “Short Shorts” program and will screen at the Krikorkian Premiere Theater in Monrovia, CA the week of August 17-25, 2012. I’ll provide more details and times as the AOF finalize the schedule.
For those of you haven’t yet seen The Specimen play to a large audience, this will be a great opportunity. It’s quite a different experience than watching it online or at home, and I hope that you’ll be able to make it out.
Now I know what you’re thinking, “Action on Film? For The Specimen? But it’s a comedy?” It certainly sounds like an odd match, but the AOF has grown to be much more than just action films, and features a wide breadth of genres including comedy, drama, and family films, and was named one of the Top 25 Film Festivals worth the fees in 2009 by Movie-maker magazine.
Not only that, Not Afraid! is an alumni of the festival, having previously screened at the 2008 AOF with the Not Afraid! Produced and Antony Teofilo directed Mercy. It was a terrific event where we received multiple creative nominations, with our lead actress Emilee Harris taking home Breakout Female Action Star of the Year (Short). So I’m pretty excited to return and see The Specimen again on the big screen.
